Society of Forensic Toxicology- 2021 Conference Meeting

The SOFT Toxicology Resource Committee presents its first workshop on tips and tricks when seeking resources for your toxicology laboratory. The constant need for new instrumentation and well-trained staff to increase, or even maintain laboratory’s expectation is often contrasted by diminishing budgets and external support. Toxicology research is also needed to improve methods and further the knowledge in the field, but how do you accomplish that in the face of a never-ending caseload?

This half-day workshop will cover all these topics and various ways to tackle them. We will talk about different ways to write a successful grant proposal whether you are in academia, a research laboratory or a working laboratory. We will discuss the review process that goes into a successful grant application including the expectations once it has been accepted and funded. Many laboratories have gotten creative with establishing resources and we will discuss a few examples with the intention of demonstrating effective approaches.

Finally, we will showcase a laboratory who will describe the road they have taken to fund improvements using many of the techniques described. When this workshop is complete, we hope to give you an informed idea about the entire grant writing process, ideas on how to partner with others in the toxicology field and other ways to effectively secure resources to fund your equipment, people and research.
