The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education has opened up registration for field trips for Spring 2024 to students in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Students in middle or high school can be immersed in the world of forensic science by conducting hands-on experiments in our lab. All trips run from 9 - 12 pm and include a brief introductory lesson. Students will be split into four groups that will rotate through activities on Forensic Biology, Chemistry, and Toxicology.
The CFSRE is happy to host forensic science field trips for high school age students that are interested in the field. The trips are set to last 3 hours (9am to noon) from start to finish, with an introductory lecture followed by forensic activities. We offer two versions of our field trips, Advanced and Introductory. Please see below for further information about each field trip type:
Introductory:
This field trip is designed for students who have little to no background knowledge in forensic science. During this experience students will be divided into three groups rotating between forensic biology, chemistry, and fingerprinting, spending approximately 45 minutes in each rotation. In each rotation evidence will be presented to the group and students will be responsible for following appropriate chain of custody and evaluation procedures.
Advanced:
This field trip is designed for students who already have a foundation in forensic science and the various disciplines that accompany the field. During this experience students will be divided into two groups rotating between forensic biology and chemistry spending approximately 90 minutes in each rotation. In each rotation evidence will be presented to the group and students will be responsible for following appropriate chain of custody and evaluation procedures.
The price is $25.00 per student. Teachers and/or chaperones are free of charge. Starting Spring 2024 these field trips will be taking place on our new state of the art laboratory down the road from where we are currently located (206 Welsh Rd, Horsham PA).
