This panel summarizes research on existing drug surveillance methods as well as the detection of emerging drugs that are subject to misuse. Panelists — representing epidemiology, public health, forensic science, and criminal justice research and practice disciplines — will highlight the multifaceted nature of current and emerging drug crises and the challenges of synthesizing data and resources to inform effective responses that reflect a collaboration between public health and public safety sectors to address national challenges like the opioid epidemic.
