Marla Ditzer is a German graduate student who recently completed her bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Hamburg, Germany, with a focus on molecular biology. Her interest in science began with early experiences in clinical settings but quickly evolved into a deep passion for the molecular mechanisms underlying health and disease. Marla’s strong laboratory foundation stems from her academic work in molecular biology, where she routinely performed DNA and RNA extractions and worked with PCR and Real-Time PCR techniques. Her fascination with the intersection of science and criminal investigation grew during an internship at the Department of Forensic Molecular Biology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, where she strengthened her practical skills in a professional forensic setting. Outside of the lab, Marla is a competitive field hockey player and former German U18 Champion. Marla plans to pursue a master’s degree in biomedical sciences to expand her knowledge in translational and forensic medicine. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to the advancement of forensic and biomedical research to support justice and improve healthcare.
