Rita K. Noonan, PhD, recently retired from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During her 24-year career, she served as a behavioral scientist and senior leader addressing the leading causes of death for Americans - violence, unintentional injuries, chronic disease, and drug overdose. She is the central architect of CDC's approach to drug overdose prevention, including the development of unintentional drug overdose surveillance systems (e.g., SUDORS) and state-based programs featuring public health/public safety collaborations such as Overdose Data to Action (OD2A), and the Overdose Response Strategy (ORS). In addition to leading diverse groups of scientists, she oversaw annual budgets exceeding $400M. Dr. Noonan has authored over 40 scientific publications and received numerous awards for her teaching, research, leadership, and innovative partnership with public safety.
